College Application FAQ
Need information about the college application process. This article can help by providing answers to frequently asked college application questions.
If you have a specific question about your college application, you may want to consider contacting the school's admissions committee or speaking to someone who currently attends the school. In the meantime, here is a collection of college application FAQ that can help:
Is it better to apply early in the application process?
It all depends on the school. Some schools have two or three application rounds. Others have only one. If possible, get your college application in early. While most schools will not penalize you for applying in a later round, you may have a better chance of getting admitted when there are more openings.
If my SAT score is lower than the school's average SAT score, should I avoid applying?
No. An average SAT score is exactly what it implies-an average. If the average score of applicants is 550, at least half of the people scored under 550. Plus, your SAT score is only one aspect of the college application. There are many other things admissions committees consider.
I don't like the essay topic assigned to me on my college application. Can I write about something else?
You can, but you shouldn't. The most important rule of the college application process involves following directions.
My GPA isn't that high. Do I stand a chance of getting admitted into the college of my choice?
It depends. If the rest of your college application is strong, you definitely stand a chance. If not, your chances may be not be so good. However, if you showed any sort of academic improvement, things may not be as dismal as you think. For example, if your grades were low during your freshman and sophomore year, but got better during your junior and senior year, you have shown aptitude and a desire to improve. This is always a good thing as far as the admissions committee is concerned.
