There are a few important things to consider before deciding on an online degree program

School Reputation
Getting your degree from a school with a reputation for only providing online degrees can hurt you. It can make it difficult for you to find a job and to get accepted into a reputable graduate program.

Convenience
Make sure the classes are set up in a way that will work with your schedule. Some classes require you to be online and working with other students on group projects. Consider beforehand whether that kind of setup will work for you.

Cost
Some of the schools with the best reputation will also be the most expensive. Do the research and figure out how much you can afford and whether you will be able to qualify for financial aid.

Find Reviews Online
Look for reviews online of previous students who have attended the school you are considering. See what other students have to say about the faculty, the way the online courses are presented, how thoroughly the topics are covered and any other factors that you consider important things to consider about a school.

Full Accreditation?
There are various types of accreditation so it’s important to understand which types of accreditation are the most important. An accredited school usually has one or both of the following types of accreditation. They either have national accreditation or regional accreditation. National accreditation is important, but regionally accredited schools are the ones you want to look for. Here is where you can go to find out whether the school you are considering is accredited or not. Search Accredited Schools

Is Internet Education Right For You?
Ask yourself whether you are self motivated and disciplined enough to be able to stay on top of your distance education on the internet. Some people have trouble remembering to keep track of their classes online what is due when. Before you pay the tuition and commit yourself, keep in mind that you will need to be self motivated to get yourself through to the end of an online degree program.

The Difference Between Distance Education and Online Education and Independent Study
Distance education, long distance education or independent study covers a large group of teaching formats that cater to out of state or students that are a long distance away. There are many ways that the courses can be presented. Some schools send textbooks, assign reading assignments an then require you to mail in tests or quizzes or take them online. Other schools offer regularly schedulated classes that are taught via video feed over the internet. Other schools offer offer combinations of these different learning formats. Online education typically refers to those degrees or classes in which most or all of the work is done over the internet. Distant learning, distance education or independent study might cover teaching formats that are only through the mail, visiting a satellite location to watch a video of the professor teaching. Distant learning covers every format of teaching from a distance while online education is specific to getting your degree over the internet.
