Preparing for Standardized Tests
Colleges use standardized test scores to compare applicants and to determine a student's knowledge of particular subjects. Because your scores will be used to judge you, it is a good idea to make sure that you are properly prepared before taking any standardized test.
Standardized tests are meant to assess a student's knowledge, attainment, or aptitude in a certain subject. Unfortunately, not everyone tests well. You can be intelligent and a dedicated student and still do poorly on standardized tests. This is why preparation is so important. If you are getting ready to take a standardized test, here are some test prep tips that can help.
Test Prep Books
No matter what standardized test you are taking, there is a test prep book for you. In fact, there are probably several. Most books contain information about the test, test taking strategies, and sample tests. In general, test prep books are inexpensive and a valuable preparation tool. You should get at least one test prep book to help you prepare. If you don't have the money to purchase one, visit you local library.
Test Prep Courses
Test prep courses can also help you prepare for a standardized test by offering extensive tips and strategies for test day, as well as detailed subject instruction and practice tests. While many of these prep courses are expensive, sometimes costing one thousand dollars or more, they will help you do better on the test.
